In 2016, I began making the faces of buildings from my life experience in the city, out of cardboard, averaging 12inches in size. These are of buildings that have been torn down or changed as the Vernacular Landscape changed. These cardboard relief facades are a documentation/record of my neighborhood, Williamsburg, Brooklyn. I want to pay tribute to a time and place that is disappearing.
The book begins to reanimate the artistic, vibrant, funky, NYC neighborhood I arrived into, during the summer of 1996. I have created over 150 facades, with over 70 mounted onto painted wood. The book features many of the mounted facades with their addresses. This work is as much about urban planning as it is about living in continual change; about the past as it is our future.
